Saliva Testing

Saliva Testing

Saliva testing is a testing process that involves checking saliva for drugs and alcohol. This test can be completed in our lab or specimen collection site using a mouth swab, cotton swab, swab stick, spitting, draining of using suction. Any of these are valid for testing but some options will provide less accuracy. The larger amount of sample collected, the more tests can be provided and even a retest to ensure nothing has been missed.

Some factors that can allow for some greater accuracy in testing, are that all persons who will be doing the test will be told not to eat or drink anything 10-15 minutes before the test. Anything from water to medication can cause interference with the testing and might not conclude enough evidence. Depending on where this test is completed, you could have the results right away but, in most cases, this will have to be sent off to a lab and will require 24-48 hours to get the report back.
